1950’s ENGLISH BOXED SUTCLIFFE DISNEY NAUTILUS SUBMARINE. The British firm of Sutcliffe made this Nautilus submarine, under licence from Disney, to commemorate the 1954 film ´20,000 Leagues Under the Sea´. Production ceased in 1979 when an updated version was issued. Measuring approx 9.7" (250mm) long, it is made of pressed steel and had a strong wind-up motor that enables it to submerge and resurface. Condition: Due to its popularity, it is difficult to find an example of this toy that is not seriously rusted from over-exposure to water. Fortunately, the bodywork of this example is in very good condition, both transfer portholes and the transfer Sutcliffe emblem are complete and star-bright, however, the motor appears to have been wound-up too tightly and spraying with oil has failed to release the machine: The item is therefore sold ’As Is’. The special original long-shank key is included. Apart from a small (1.2cm) tear to back at R/H corner of hinge and miniscule rubbing to L/H corner of hinge; the box is in splendid condition, with no noticeable outside appearance defects at all. Ideal as an exhibit   -  Please check photos carefully.
