This is a very unusual and lovely piece of Chinese Canton enamel that probably dates from the late 1800s. Generally found on utilitarian pieces like bowls and vases, this is the first plaque I´ve had the pleasure of having in over 35 years. The piece has a design of birds and prunus blossoms with what I believe is bamboo in the lower foreground. The colors are excellent and the condition is quite good, especially for the material and age. The frame size is 13" (32.4cm) by 10 1/8" (25.5cm) and the visible area of the plaque is 8 1/2" (21.3cm) by 5" (12.5cm). I presume it is enamel on copper, but I´ve not had it open and out of the frame. There are some fine stress lines as can be seen in the photos and one very small spot that may have been an impact point near the top and just right of center.
