CAN SOMEONE SAY TO ME, ALL THAT FINDS IT HARD TO RECEIVE A REGISTERED LETTER WITH 1 CARD TO 5 EUROPA'S CARDS FOR ISRAEL? I THINK THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO TAKES ADVANTAGE OF THIS SITUATION. SOME OF THEM ASK FOR ADDITIONAL PAYMENT FOR REGISTERED LETTER FROM 2 EUROS TO 8 EUROS. I SUGGEST TO THESE FRIENDS, ORGANIZEN AN UNION FOR AGREES, ALL THAT TO CHARGE FOR REGISTERED LETTER. For me to send a postcard in a packet to Israel NOT REGISTERED is £1.64 which is 2.07 Euros....that is the ACTUAL cost...on top of that you have to add on the cost of the packet (aprox 20p) Now, registered (International Signed for) to Israel would cost £5.14, which is 6.48 Euros + packing costs....This is what it actually costs ! I entirely agree with Karenswift about the cost of sending mail by Registered mail (Now for some reason called - To be Signed For ) In fact for UK sellers the situation is worse than K mentions, Britain does not use Euros, so the seller in UK will have to change those Euros into Pounds, which has its own cost.

You seem to want us all to agree on how much it costs to send a registered letter from "Europe" to Israel. You must have noticed that all the different countries in Europe still have their own different stamps. It's not like the United States of America. This means that every country has its own Post Office and its own postal rates (tariffs). It is not surprising that different senders ask for different costs. Then of course the weight which they are sending will vary depending on how they pack it, and they will legitimately make a small charge for the packing --- in UK English, the total charge is for "post & packing" (known in the USA as "shipping"), not just for postage alone. You would probably find that the rates charged even by sellers in Israel varies too; and certainly from Israel, Egypt, Jordan, the Lebanon and Syria it will be different. A big difference between European countries is that some countries charge for "Europe" strictly speaking, while other countries have a "Europe and Mediterranean" rate, which means probably that it costs less to post from Italy to Israel than from Denmark to Israel . ...and to complete the chaos: comparing prices should include to compare the security registration gives - as far as I know, in UK there is no problem to get some money in case the letter is lost. So, the price may be high, but you get something for it: security. In Germany registration fee is "only" 2.05 Euro - but in case of any lost letters your problems will begin. In case of international letters best solution is: Beside, that I hate those sellers trying to "earn" some nice extra money with costs for shoes, glueing envelopes or searching items, in case of registration there MAY be a reasonable explanation. These letters you can't drop in any mailbox, you have to go to next post office / postal agency. Upcountry this may mean 15 - 20 kilometers (partly even more), because a lot post offices were closed in here. Anyway - everything what's more than stamp values should be exactly declared in the auction. That enables every buyer to decide if he wants to pay any "extra" or not.

Don't apologise, Alan. We understand why you might want to hang on to what traditions you have got. But why don't you divide your ounces into drams ? 16 drams = 1 ounce on our old system Avoirdupois or Imperial . [Different with Apothecaries weight, but the ounces Avoirdupois, Troy, and Apothecaries are all different anyway ] . It is your system as you state it which presents problems, not our metric scales! You seem to have no rate appropriate for sending anything that weighs between 1 ounce and 1.1 ounce. Of course, when you have decided the weight and tariff, it will weigh more when you have actually stuck the appropriate stamps on. So you keep on with your imperial measures. Never mind the wily ways of your revolutionary allies. If it was good enough for George III, it's good enough for you. Rogermo
